Hepatitis C Incidence Rate (18-30 years)

County/City: Fairfax City
Measurement Period: 2020
This indicator shows the rate of newly diagnosed hepatitis C cases per 100,000 population.

Why is this important?

Hepatitis C is a contagious liver disease caused by the hepatitis C virus. The disease can range from a mild illness lasting a few weeks to a severe, lifelong illness that can cause cirrhosis or liver cancer. Hepatitis C is transmitted primarily through the sharing of needles and other drug-injecting equipment. About 75%-85% of people with acute hepatitis C infection will go on to develop chronic infection. An estimated 3.2 million persons in the U.S. have chronic hepatitis C infection. Most people do not know they are infected because they do not have symptoms. There is no vaccine for hepatitis C.
